Where Can I Get Rid Of My Sofa

Over the years we have had 5 couches, all of which have gone to tracks and cleaning mistakes. But I’ve found a combination of a few different methods if you ever want to know how to clean your couch, as well as a DIY couch cleaning solution that’s quick and cheap.

This was our sofa lover “before” (the pictures looked better than it did in person). We got our two sofas from the Pottery Barn York mix (which I shared a full pro/con review about) about a year ago.

I was under the impression that the Sunbrella fabric would stay a crisp clean white that only needed the occasional spot treatment because it is a super performance shirting fabric. But time has shown me that it still gets dirty, as you’d expect a white couch to (surprise, surprise).

We have a dog and two kids who growl, track poop all over them, and to be honest, Robert and I aren’t the easiest on this couch either. We have no rules against eating and drinking on these sofas and our team is a bunch of singers so you can imagine the carnage.

This called for a vigorous cleaning of the couch. This method I use works on fabric chairs, upholstered or not.

Is Replacing Old Furniture Good For Your Health?

I recommend deep cleaning your sofa once or twice a year (I usually prefer spring and fall). But it’s better to vacuum your couches once a month and deal with spills to avoid permanent stains.

Over the years, I’ve cleaned everything from IKEA couches to sofas and upholstered chairs, and they’ve all gotten a deep clean that looks like new.

Always test any cleaning solution you use on an inconspicuous area. Wipe a small area with a white cloth and cleaning solution. If the sofa color appears on the fabric, do not use the cleaning solution on the sofa.

If possible, disassemble and remove the covers from the sofa cushions. Take the time to “puff” with the pillow sticks. Shake the lid well to loosen any loose debris.

My favorite combination for white linens throughout the house (sheets/towels/beds/covers) is to wash with 1 capsule of OxiClean White Revive and a cup of baking soda. Make all dirty white shades and clean without bleach!

OxiClean White Revive is color and septic safe if that’s a concern for you. I’ve been using it on our white IKEA covers for years to make them as white as possible.

Line dry until moist, TINXoxxx. It’s best to put a clean cover back on the sofa cushions while they’re still wet to stretch the wrinkles, not shrink them and make them easier to protect.

If you are washing the covers for the entire sofa, you can throw the whole thing in the wash separately from the cushion covers to avoid crowding.

But since our beds need to be cleaned more on the arms, I didn’t want to go through the trouble of cleaning the entire cover. You can also use the method below on the stained shirt on the couch.

Remove all loose hair, dirt and debris from under the sofa cushions and on the sofa upholstery itself with the vacuum wand brush attachment. Get into each corner and crack as much as you can with the stick handle.

To absorb any odors, sprinkle baking soda all over the couch (focusing on high-traffic areas like the arms of the couch) and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

I’ve used a few upholstery cleaners in the past (Folex is what I generally like), but I’ve found that mixing this DIY couch cleaner in a spray bottle is just as effective.

If you have an upholstery cleaner (we have this Bissell Little Green Stain Cleaner that we love), use it after this step for an even deeper clean.

Does it look better?! It smells absolutely amazing. Robert has repeatedly commented since he cleaned our couches a few days ago that they feel like new! So fluffy and bright!

The good news is that it’s fairly labor-saving if you make it part of your regular spring and/or fall cleaning, and cleaning stubborn stains as they occur can extend the life of your fabric bedding.

I really missed the sofa fabric last week, but now that those beds have been deep cleaned, I’m even happier with these Pottery Barn sofas that we’ve been saving for years.

Even though we had feathers flying throughout the cleaning process, I still love how soft and comfortable they are.

My reward for this sofa cleaning job was removing the fall decor to make this living room cozier, so you can guess what’s going on here. 😉

By the way, if you want to know, as is sometimes asked, here is our living room decor source. Need to get rid of an old couch, sofa or couch? Here are 5 options on how to throw a sofa.

It is estimated that 1,000,000 sofas are reused in the UK each year. That’s about 17% of all sofas that have reached the end of their lives. If your sofa is still in good condition, clean, bleached or stained, and the springs are decent – then hopefully you are thinking about reusing and not throwing away. In other words, you are giving or selling your sofa to someone else who can use it.

How To Get Smells Out Of A Couch

You can donate or sell your sofa directly to someone or indirectly by giving it to a furniture charity or second-hand dealer who will resell or pass it on to someone else. In any case, the sofa will be reused rather than destroyed.

However, be aware that charities and dealers will only accept your sofa if it has a fire safety certificate. This is because businesses are not legally allowed to sell furniture without a fire label.

Selling or donating your old sofa can be done offline or online. Let’s look at each in a little more detail.

Note that many of these furniture reuse charities are registered collectors in the junk removal and reuse market (see below). Therefore, if you prefer not to resort to arranging a collection, the simpler solution is to enumerate and leave the closest one available to you.

The main recycling websites are Freegle, Freecycle, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Auctioneer (if old) and . The big difference between it and other online options is that it also has a garbage collector. So even if no one is interested in taking your couch for free, you’ll still find plenty of offers from scrap companies to get rid of it.

Council civic service sites, also known as household waste recycling centers or your ‘local council’, accept old sofas. Their address and opening hours can be found by contacting your local council. For a list of London councils with locations, maps and opening times, click here.

The biggest problem with getting your couch to your local HWRC is how you’re going to fit the couch in your car. Sofas are hard enough to fit into your home, let alone remodel in one piece. For this reason, many people choose to remove the arms from the couch to get into the car and make it easier to drive. So if you know for sure that you won’t need your sofa anymore or it’s not in good enough condition to use, go ahead and break it up. Alternatively, you can consider renting a van. However, remember that many councils do not allow lorry access!

The council provides residents with a collection service for unwanted bulk items such as sofas and sofa beds. Prices range from free to £75. Although relatively cheap, the main disadvantage of the council’s bulky waste collection service is speed and convenience. Many take weeks to arrive and also collect very little from the property.

If you don’t like waiting for advice, want the sofa collected at your property, or perhaps have other items to dispose of at the same time, then you need a rubbish collector.

But make sure they are licensed as waste haulers and properly insured. Bulk waste collection is a notorious industry for cowboy operators who pay cheap just to illegally dump your old couch in the garden or yard. In other words, flight transmission.

Use the marketplace to find quotes and compare customer ratings for licensed waste haulers. Typical collection and disposal charges 2
