I didn’t do anything to check for sex offenders in the area before I bought my house, but you better believe that will be one of the first things I do. As I write this, I looked up my address and thankfully found seven registered sex offenders living within about two miles of me, but not my immediate neighbors. Of those, four were listed as third-degree sex crimes, one was listed as a child pornography offense, and the other two were listed as “other.” Make sure you know where they live and think carefully about where you will buy your home.
