What Happens When You Go To Heaven – Although many people do not want to consider this question, it is one of the most important questions in life. The reason this is so important is that the choices you make in life determine what happens when you die.

There are many conflicting ideas that people believe about the afterlife. However, the Bible clearly states the true answer to this question. By understanding what happens when you die, you can change your life choices to change your eternal destiny.

Daniel 12:2 (ESV) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

What Happens When Believers Die?

The prophet Daniel said that everyone will be resurrected at the end of time. However, there can be two different directions. The first is eternal life with God, the second is eternal death without God. Two places are often referred to in Scripture as heaven and hell.

Most people think they will go to heaven when they die. However, Jesus said that the truth is exactly the opposite of what most people think.

Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV) “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide and easy is the gate that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. Narrow is the gate and hard is the way. It leads to life , and few are those who find it.”

Everyone’s destiny after death is hellfire and eternal torment. A small minority, some find the narrow gate and the path that leads to eternal life.

I mention this because Solus Christus, the fourth of the five solas we are studying this week, has been very influential in how we view this difficult theological situation. If salvation is by grace alone in Christ, through faith, does this not mean that all who do not have the opportunity and ability to accept Christ will forever die from God? If so, it seems that God is not fair and does not punish his mistakes.

Christians over the centuries have created many versions of how just God is. Sometimes these choices lead to very heated debates and accusations of heresy.

The first is Universalism, which teaches that everyone goes to heaven. Hell is not real. Because the Bible clearly states that God is love and that He loves everyone, universalists believe that He will save everyone. It’s good to believe this, but this view is problematic. Simply put, the Bible, including Jesus, is clear about eternal punishment. Jesus said several times that the path to God is narrow and few find it. For those of you in the Faith Church reading this, we are part of a denomination called the Evangelical Congregational Church, and our belief in the EU is that hell exists. We are not attached to universality. But we hold tightly to the Bible’s teaching that God is love.

Second, there is a relatively small percentage of Christians who believe in posthumous evangelism. This vision suggests that God gives you a second chance to choose after you die and see the choice between heaven and hell. Again, this promotes God’s grace and love and removes the element of injustice for those who have not received the gospel. Regardless of your circumstances on earth, whether you are a tribal, a Turkish Muslim, a mentally challenged person or a child, when you die you will have a mind and body fully capable of making decisions. God gives you a second chance to choose Him. It seems to be essentially universalism, because then who wouldn’t choose heaven? But theoretically, some still choose hell. However, this view has some problems, the biggest of which is that there is no evidence that it is taught in the Bible. Personally, I would be shocked if this happened after death. As with universalism, I don’t think it’s true, but I think it’s true.

Next comes Sanctification, which is not just a Roman Catholic teaching. Purgatory is the name of the place between heaven and hell. There is evidence of this when the term OT authors is used in the Old Testament.

It functions as a purgatory to represent the land beyond the grave. Hades seems to be where he waits. A characteristic of the Roman Catholic view of purgatory is that it is a place where people pay for their sins. It’s not fun, but after years of waiting, you will finish your time and go to heaven. Another difficulty is that this vision has a biblical outline.

A fourth perspective is the abolitionist perspective. It is a Christian minority view that those who believe in Christ will go to heaven and others will simply perish. Deleted. Where did it come from? Jesus once said in Matthew 10:28, “Do not be afraid of those who cannot kill the body and kill the spirit. Instead, fear Him who can destroy soul and body in hell. This view addresses the dilemma many people have about God sending people to eternal, conscious torment in hell. Annihilationism asserts that unrepentant sinners perish rather than eternal torment, burning alive, or separation from God. The problem with this view is that we need to be very careful when devising theories based on a single verse.

Who Will Go To Heaven?

Another view is called prediction/election. God chooses or chooses who to save and who not to save. It has nothing to do with human willpower. An aborted child can choose to go to heaven. One may not exist. The Yanomami tribe can send people to heaven. Another may not exist. One Turkish Muslim can go to heaven and another cannot. It all depends on God. This view is a very harsh judgment. Many people who believe in predictions or elections do not
