Many of us have been taught that this is a wonderful place where people go immediately after death. There he will meet God and become one of the angels who will watch over his loved ones. But even though this picture looks good, the Bible tells us otherwise.

Take, for example, Abraham, the great patriarch. He talked to God many times and had a strong relationship with Him. If anyone was supposed to be taken to heaven after death, you’d think it would be Abraham.

But the Book of Genesis says nothing about God taking Abraham to heaven. Instead, it says that Abraham died and was “gathered to his people” (Genesis 25:8).
