To make a fair comparison between different cleaning methods, we soiled four lids equally with a mixture of vegetable oil, dirt and grime.

Method: We sprayed the dirtiest areas of the lid with OxiClean Stain Remover, then soaked it in a tub of warm water and detergent for 30 minutes. Then we scrubbed with a soft brush, rinsed, and air-dried in an upside-down bowl.

The result: the hat came out almost completely clean, with almost no dirt left. The drying process not only maintains the shape but also improves it.

Method: Same as the above method of hand washing, except using shampoo instead of detergent: first spray the stain remover, then soak with shampoo in a warm water bath and hold for 30 minutes, then scrub with a soft brush, rinse with water. And the air is dry.

Results: While we thought the stain remover spray did a lot of work, the shampoo worked surprisingly well. The shampoo produced a lot of suds while scrubbing and it took about 10 minutes to rinse completely. After drying some light stains remained.

Method: We pre-treated the tricky areas with OxyClean spray and put them in the washing machine with the other clothes. The detergent I used was Tide Pod and the setting was Warm Wash (Colour). After washing, I threw the hat in the dryer with the other laundry and ran a full cycle on the normal setting (about 60 minutes).
