Make sure you are getting the most out of your car and home insurance. If you’ve been with the same companies for a while, call to see if they can get you a better rate.

Check with your employer and/or your spouse’s employer to see if you can get discounted insurance (including life insurance). There may be benefits that you are not aware of.

To be honest, medical costs are high in America. If you and your family can get health insurance through an employer, that is the best option.

If you have the option to put money into a flexible spending account for health care, you will save extra money when paying medical expenses.

The most obvious ways to save gas are not to use your car to get a more fuel-efficient car, or to switch to a one-car home (if you have two cars). But most of them are probably not an option.

The easiest way to save on gas is to get a credit card and get a higher interest rate on gas purchases.

This can be through your favorite gas station brand, membership clubs like Sam’s or Costco (the advantage is that they own their own gas stations, which are already cheaper, so it’s a savings double!) or bank. Ask if they offer a credit card with incentives for people who like to travel.

Split the cost of your phone plan with family or friends. Sometimes it can be cheaper to get multiple phone lines on one account than to get separate accounts.

If your child doesn’t need a smartphone, don’t buy it. Elementary and middle school children do not need a smartphone. They do not need constant access to the internet and social media.

To save on online streaming services, pay for Amazon Prime (you get multiple services for one price), buy discount streaming service gift cards at places like Sam’s for great deals, and use Swagbucks or Rakuten to get streaming service gift cards. Or get a free or discounted test through your cell phone provider.

After the trial period ends, they usually give you a discount to extend your membership. If you decline, you may get a better deal in a later email when they try to get you back.

Last but not least, evaluate the additional subscription services you have and decide if they are worth the money. Things like gym memberships, streaming services, delivery services, magazine subscriptions, subscription and save orders, and monthly subscription boxes you’re about to open.

You may find some subscriptions or memberships that you forgot to pay for. You should either cancel them or start using them again as soon as possible. (Even if you haven’t used them in the last 3-6 months, you won’t start using them in the near future!)
