How To Get Rid Of Urine Smell On Sofa – Unfortunately, there is no “right way” to talk about it, but how to get rid of urine odor is something every mother should know and have in her bag of tricks.

Try to prevent absorbent surfaces in your home from being used as a toilet (and smelly!) now and for the past three days.

The three main problem areas I keep getting messages about are carpets, sofas and mattresses. So we’re going to focus on these three because they seem to cause the most problems!

How To Get Pee Smell Out Of Mattress

This is where white vinegar will be your secret weapon, in varying amounts depending on the surface you’re cleaning, but vinegar goes a long way on all three counts! A lot of people worry about the smell, but I promise you that once it dries down, you won’t even know it was there!

When your baby has an “accident”, try to wet her as soon as possible. Use a thick, absorbent towel and really put some muscle behind it! The more water you can drink from the start, the less likely you are to remove the stain/odor!

Once you’ve cleaned as much as possible (or if you find it after it’s dried), mix a cleaning solution of 3 parts warm water and 1 part white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray until the area is soaked and dry with a clean towel after about 10 minutes. Sprinkle it with baking soda and cover it with a mixture of 3/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon dish detergent and massage with your fingers as much as you can to get it into all the little spaces.

I won’t lie,  it’s one of the worst things you’ll ever have to do, but trust me, it’s better than smelling like pee every time you try to relax in the living room!

Allow the mixture to dry completely (probably overnight) and vacuum the next day. If there is still a smell, I just repeat the vinegar mixture, then just the baking soda, and vacuum…it does the job every time!

Obviously, this will vary depending on the upholstery on your sofa. But if you’re dealing with regular upholstery (not leather or the fancy stuff!), they did the job for us.

As before, wipe off as much as you can with an absorbent towel. Next, mix a solution of 50/50 water and white vinegar (1/2 cup each) and 1/4 cup dishwashing liquid until foamy (hand mixer is best). Then use a bristle brush (an old toothbrush is good) spread it over the areas and really scrub.

Getting urine out of mattresses can be difficult because they are so big and absorbent, but there are tricks that give moms hope!

If you happen to have it on a flat mattress, simply wipe and clean it with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar. Then put the bed in the sun to dry (supposedly the sun helps neutralize the smell).

If you are dealing with a full size mattress, it is very important to soak it as much as possible while it is still wet!

Once you’ve done this, thoroughly soak the area in a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar until thoroughly soaked and allow to dry completely. Then turn the bed over and do the same on the other side.

Although this may leave you sleeping on the couch for the rest of the night, it will ensure that the mattress is properly cleaned and prevent lingering odors.
