Over the years, we’ve had five chairs, all of which have been crossed and bug cleaned. But if you want to know how to clean your sofa, I found a combination of convenient ways, plus a quick and cheap DIY sofa cleaning solution.

How To Clean Velvet Furniture The Right Way

This is our “before” sofa (pictures show it better than it is). We got our sofa set from Pottery Barn York (which I shared a completely unbiased review of here ) about a year ago.

I was impressed that the Sunbrella fabric stayed white, requiring only occasional spot treatments, as it is a very effective mattress fabric. But time has shown me that it’s still as sad as you’d expect from a white sofa (surprise).

We have a dog and two kids who run around them, track dirt all over them, and to be honest, neither Robert nor I are comfortable in these couches. We have some rules about food and drink on these couches and our crew is a rowdy bunch, so you can imagine the carnage.

This requires a thorough cleaning of the sofa, I use this method on fabric seats that are very slippery or not.

How To Clean A Fabric Couch

I recommend cleaning this sofa once or twice a year (I usually prefer spring and fall). But it is better to wipe it once a month and treat it as soon as it falls to prevent permanent stains.

Over the years, I’ve cleaned everything from IKEA sofas to upholstered sofas and chairs, and they’ve all been thoroughly cleaned to look like new.

Always check which cleaning solution you are using on an unfamiliar area first. Wipe a small area with a white cloth and a cleaning solution. Do not use the cleaning solution on your sofa if the color of the sofa shows on the fabric.

If possible, open and remove the cover from the sofa cushion. Take time to “inflate” the cushions and tennis. Shake the cap well to remove any loose residue.

My favorite combination for our all-white fabric (linen/towel/mattress/carpet) is a load of laundry in a cap full of OxiClean White Revive and a cup of baking soda. This will make all the dirty spots look bright without pigment!

OxiClean White Revive is dye and virus safe if that is an issue for you. I’ve been using it on white IKEA shoes for years to make it as white as possible.

Allow to dry until damp, do not dry. It’s a good idea to put a clean cover over the sofa cushions while they’re still wet to spread out wrinkles, prevent wrinkles and make it easier to re-upholster.

If you wash the entire sofa, you can throw it all in the laundry room, separate from the pillow cover, to avoid overcrowding.

How To Clean A Couch

But since our couch has to be cleaned mostly by hand, I don’t want to go through the trouble of cleaning the entire cover. You can also use the following methods on the sofa mat that comes with it.

Clean loose hair, dirt and debris under the sofa cushion and on the sofa cushion itself using a vacuum cleaner. Use the hose to reach as many lines as possible.

To help absorb odors, sprinkle baking soda all over the couch (focusing on high-traffic areas like the arms) and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

I’ve used several makeup removers in the past (Folks is generally one of my favorites), but I find that mixing this DIY chair cleaner into a spray bottle works just as well.

Optional: If you have a makeup remover (we like Bissell’s Little Green Spot Remover), use it after this step for a deeper clean.

Does it look much nicer?! Great smell Robert has been saying over and over that they feel fresh since I cleaned our couch a few days ago! very bright!

The good news, however, is that it is essential if you do this as part of your regular spring cleaning and/or fall cleaning, as well as cleaning heavily soiled areas when they occur. This can extend the life of your bed. freedom

I’m so sorry about the couch fabric last week, but now that the couches are clean, I’m happy with the luxurious couches we’ve had for years.

How To Keep Your White Couch Clean

Even though we were full of hair throughout the cleaning process, I loved how soft and comfortable it was.

My reward for doing this couch cleaning job is getting rid of the fall decor to make the living room feel cozier so you can guess what’s coming. 😉

In fact, if you want to know, because they sometimes ask, this is the source of our living room decor. We are definitely not professional cleaners or machine operators, but we did offer to rent a carpet cleaner just last week. Here’s what we thought about the process and its effectiveness. We filmed the whole thing and posted the video, so if you haven’t already, be sure to check out the DIY Fabric Sofa Cleaner YouTube video!

It was funny one day when I thought of training a dog not to sit on the sofa. (Including laughter from the crowd) This is where the DIY fabric sofa cleaning method comes in handy. Try as I might, I just don’t have the heart or backbone to keep an animal off the couch. And when we are not home, they have nowhere to stay in bed.

Steps To Cleaning Performance Fabric Sofas

I was so frustrated when I saw them on the couch, every time they were on the couch, it meant the life of the couch was being shortened. I’ve never gone through the process of cleaning a beautiful DIY fabric sofa, so I really didn’t expect to have one. However, one day we decided to hire a carpet cleaner from Home Depot. We used the Rug Doctor brand. The spare parts that came with it made my bike roll.

Hiring a DIY fabric sofa cleaner did a great job on the basement carpet that we had contaminated for years with a renovation project. It’s an exercise, but it pays off with the time and money it takes to rent a car. What makes it even more valuable, in my opinion, is its DIY cloth sofa cleaning potential. I can’t believe what an amazing job it was to remove our makeup.

Renting a carpet cleaner comes with great kitchen equipment for cleaning sofas and couches. If you still don’t know how to rent a carpet cleaner, they are a hose and a vacuum cleaner. First, spray water and cleaning solution on the dirty surface and saturate the cloth thoroughly. Almost immediately, the water and cleaning solution are sucked into the vacuum cleaner, bringing with it a large amount of dirt and dust.

I spent about $300 to carpet my basement and have two couches professionally steamed. What they do on the carpets is ok, but the “professional” cleaning of the furniture is really lacking. And it’s not a free plugin! I love this DIY fabric sofa cleaning method because you can roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and get to work until it’s done. Unfortunately, I was not as successful as the hired assistant. This DIY fabric sofa cleaner not only works better than the professionals we hire, but it also saves us money.

We pay about $35 to rent a 4-hour sofa cleaner. The cleaning solution costs about $20. At this time, we can wash the basement carpet as well as the two fabric sofas in the room. We love our affordable leather seats because they don’t attract dirt from your lashes. Their cleaning habits are simple. Our home depot will actually allow us to leave the unit overnight at no extra charge if it is rented at 6pm. You can rent a similar car from Lowes or even a local grocery and hardware store, but we’re happy with this brand.

If you want to easily clean a chair at home, I recommend hiring a carpet cleaner attached to the mattress. So far, both times we’ve rented this car, we’ve been pleased with its results. It takes at least 4 hours for a double bed and a basement. We’ve shared it further in our YouTube videos, so be sure to check it out.
