Choose your wire mesh: Choose mesh with quarter-inch holes and make sure it bends easily. We recommend galvanized mesh as it has a special coating that resists rust and lasts longer. You can buy items like this at most hardware stores for about $10.

Choose your screws: The ideal screw for installing mesh has a large head so it won’t go through the wire holes. Again, we recommend galvanized screws for rust resistance. Try to keep the length to about an inch and the diameter to a minimum. Using large screws means you are drilling very large holes in your home.

Installing Wire Mesh: Cut a section of wire that extends at least one inch beyond the edge of the hole in all directions. Bend the wire to fit snugly in the corner or around the edges. If there is slack in your mesh, mice will simply push under it. Secure the mesh with screws about every four inches. While on your roof, do not fix it directly to your shingles or you risk leaks.

By far the most common type of mouse bait is the anticoagulant rodenticide. This is a fancy way of saying that it thins the animal’s blood, causing it to bleed and slowly die.

Traditional pest controllers rely heavily on poisoned bait because it is cheap and any worker can do it without training. It’s quicker and easier than removing the bait box, inspecting it, sealing entry holes, and setting traps in strategic locations.
