It’s fun for the kids to see ants walking around with ant hands, but it’s not fun when they walk around our house. Ants have the ability to deal with snow.

One of the best things you can do to control ants is to prevent ants from entering your home. There are many things you can do to keep ants out of your home.

Some of these drugs kill ants and others help repel them. This type of repellent requires repeated applications like those that require ants to kill.

I keep a spray bottle filled with apple cider vinegar and water mixed 50/50 in my pantry. Although it is not an effective way to keep ants out of your home, it is a good temporary deterrent.

You can use regular vinegar or apple cider. I like the apple cider variety because my kitchen smells better after using it. Read more vinegar uses in this post.

It doesn’t matter what you use to repel ants, even if you use toxic chemicals. If you leave your counter with cookie crumbs and soda spills, you will have ants walking around.

Keep your kitchen counters clean – the apple cider vinegar mixture above is great for cleaning the area! Store foods (especially sweet foods) in sealed containers.

Although ant baits are all natural and non-toxic, if you leave ants with tasty food, they will wander off in search of it.

Ant Killer Remedies

Many essential oils are effective in repelling ants. One of my favorites is to add five drops of peppermint essential oil to a cotton ball. Use it to wipe the area infested with ants.

Ants do not like the smell of peppermint. You can also mix 10 drops of peppermint oil in a small bottle of water and use it around window sills and door frames.

An added bonus is the soothing aroma of mint in your home. Clove essential oil is another good essential oil used in anti killer remedies.

Even humans can smell the strong aroma of garlic. While it’s great for cooking delicious food, garlic cloves also make an ant (and other insect) repellent.

Leave a few cloves of garlic when you see active ants. You will appear to avoid the area.

Eventually, the garlic cloves will dry out and be useless, so you can replace them if the ants return.

It’s good because it’s safe enough to use in cabinets, on kitchen counters and windows, near food and around children and pets. Grinding pepper is best.

The main reason to choose cinnamon is that it is not harmful to children or pets. Cinnamon has a strong aroma that confuses the smell of ants.

Lemon is one of my favorite herbs. They have a scent that repels ants and the sour lemon hides the tracks of ants.

To prevent ants and lemons, apply lemon juice on the door, windowsill and other places where you enter the house. Adding lemon essential oil to a cotton ball and leaving it in the closet while using it also works.

You can also leave the lemon slices. The treatment should be repeated every few days until you see that the ants are gone.

I’ve tried several borax killers recently to see which one works best for me compared to the commercial brand Terro.

Ways To Naturally Get Rid Of Ants In Your House

Terro is the most effective, but sugar water and borax are second. See borax ant killing results here.

NOTE: Borax is one of those things I might consider borderline natural. Borax has a warning keep away from eyes and do not swallow. I will leave to watch whether it should be taken as natural. Read this article about borax for more ideas.

Borax is also something I use to preserve flowers in my house with great success.

I have ants on my kitchen table and there’s no scrap so I don’t know why anyone is so antsy

Thank you for this! Two mornings ago I found a swarm of ants, including winged ones, in the kitchen sink. I knew about peppermint, but I was out so I was browsing Pinterest and found this blog. I will sweep and spray today! Thank you.

I tried borax with powdered sugar. There is no help. Try cinnamon NOPE. Cayenne pepper… do. Peppermint essential oil is another help, but spring is just around the corner. Indoor and outdoor terro is not a real help. Keep the counters and floors clean after ants come. For mosquitoes, I planted lavender and rosemary plants (which I hope will be good shrubs) outside my front door. I just love the flowers and the smell. Amazingly, I haven’t had mosquitoes in my house in years. It turns out that all plants are natural mosquito repellents. You can also buy citronella plants and they also repel mosquitoes. This plant also repels other insects. Unfortunately I don’t know about mosquito repellants. But if I find it at home, I spray it with hairspray or Lysol. Sticky with alcohol makes them unable to fly and you can remove them from the house with a paper towel.

Thanks for the tip Yolanda. I plant rosemary on the porch and it does a great job of keeping mosquitoes at bay. Carol
