When you’re paid every two weeks, that means you’re getting 26 paychecks a year. Since there are 52 weeks in a year, this means that most months you will receive two paychecks. Two months out of the year you get three paychecks.

The first step is to find out what your monthly bills are and when they are due. To do this, take a piece of paper and write down all your bills.

Not sure what your bills are? If this is your first time doing this, you will need to print your monthly bank statements for the last 2-3 months.

Go through each transaction and show outgoing monthly bills. Then add these bills to your recurring bill list.

What is a budget schedule? A monthly budget schedule can be a great tool to help you see when to pay, when your bills are due, contributions to savings, and special events or holidays coming up. You can learn more about how to use the budget schedule here.

1) Paydays and monthly invoices – write them when they are paid on your budget schedule. This is your income every two weeks. Then list all your bills by the appropriate date on your budget calendar.

If you have a lot of expenses that require a lot of paycheck money (like your rent or mortgage), you can go with the half payment method.

This means you will split the cost of your fixed bills into two parts. One pay packet covers half of the expenses and the next pay packet covers half.

2) Direct payments and savings contributions – For payments that are automatically deducted from your bank account each month, you may want to consider putting an * next to these bills.
