How Quickly Does Your Body Go Into Ketosis

How Quickly Does Your Body Go Into Ketosis

You’ve started a Keto diet because you want all the mental and physical benefits, but you want to know the fastest way to get into ketosis without all the Keto flu symptoms? Let’s talk about it!

How To Get Into Ketosis (and Stay There)

When following a Keto diet, the goal is to have your body burn fat for energy instead of relying on carbohydrates for energy. Ketosis is a metabolic process that the body goes through when the body does not have enough glucose (carbohydrates) to burn for energy, so it begins to burn stored fat; This process causes the body to build up acids called ketones.

Your body can only store a two-day supply of glucose in the form of glycogen, so if you keep your carb intake to about 20g net carbs, you’ll be in ketosis for two days.

Ketones are an excellent fuel source for your brain, and there are many medical tests reporting increased clarity and better brain function, so you may notice less brain fog and more energy in your stride as your body adjusts to your dietary changes. .

My personal experience is that you don’t wake up in the morning and feel different; it’s more of a gradual process and figuring out what foods work best for your body.

Keto Weight Loss Timeline: What To Expect

The best and cheapest way to test your body’s ketone levels is to buy an $8 Keto test strip, so when you’re first starting out, you can easily monitor your ketone levels to help you identify foods that push you out of ketosis.

New Keto dieters usually experience some of these symptoms during the first week of the Keto diet, when you deplete your body’s fuel sources and try to teach it to burn fat.

These 7 tricks will be the fastest way to get into ketosis and reduce Keto flu symptoms.

The main goal is to reduce blood sugar and insulin levels by limiting daily carbohydrate intake to 20-50g of carbohydrates per day. This will release stored fatty acids that the liver converts into ketones.

What Is A Ketone

It is also important that you take a good balance of macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates), you can determine your macros using this Keto macro calculator.

You’re not cutting out carbs completely, you’re cutting out starchy carbs, processed foods and sugar. The best way to make sure you’re eating a healthy balance of macronutrients is to use an app like the Carb Manager app.

When I first started Keto, I kept asking if exogenous ketones would work? and not sure if i really need to use the supplement.

My favorite is the Perfect Keto Exogen ketone and Nootropic mix. I drink it every morning mixed with unsweetened almond milk. (basically like Keto chocolate milk)

What Happens To Your Body When It Goes Into Ketosis?

Consuming at least 75% of your calories from fat will increase your ketone levels. BUT Keto doesn’t mean eating too much meat, cheese and steak. This is not an Atkins diet, you should eat a moderate amount of protein, which is another reason you should track your MACROS 😉

For the diet to help me reach my daily fat intake target without exceeding my protein. I previously wrote an entire article on how to increase your fat intake while following a keto diet, which went into more detail on how to increase healthy fats on a keto diet.

Medium chain triglycerides are unique fatty acids found naturally in coconut oil. These fats are quickly absorbed and converted into ketone bodies in the liver.

Getting Back Into Ketosis If I Cheat?

I usually drink a scoop every morning (no taste) or add it to a coffee or fat bomb recipe.

When on Keto, your body doesn’t store as much water, so it’s important to follow your water intake to avoid the “keto flu” feeling.

This is the biggest struggle for me because no matter how much water I drink, I still feel BLAH.

If you drink at least 90 ounces of water a day and still feel blah, you may want to consider using electrolytes.

Why You Are Not Achieving Ketosis

Someone suggested adding Hi-Lyte to a large glass of water every morning, which has been a lifesaver for me! Hi-Lyte is a liquid electrolyte concentrate made from natural sea minerals, with no calories, no sugar and no artificial flavors.

Physical activity is key. Increasing your heart rate and anything moving can increase your ketone levels during carb restriction, even if it’s just a brisk walk for 20 minutes. Move your body every day. You can download a free 5-day workout plan to help you get started on your exercise routine.

If you come home tired after a long day and don’t want to cook anything, you tend to take something lighter.

Cook everything you can ahead of time so you just grab and go. The easier it is, the more successful you will be at sticking with it. Achieving ketosis is often considered the gold standard for a successful keto diet! But what exactly is ketosis, and how do you get into ketosis and stay there? Here’s everything you need to know about switching to ketones for fuel and optimizing your keto diet for ketosis. What is ketosis and how does it work? Ketosis is a metabolic state that makes the ketogenic diet unique. In a traditional diet, the body mainly uses sugar – or more technically, glucose – for energy. Carbohydrates are the fuel source of choice because most carbohydrates are made from glucose and can be broken down quickly into instant energy. But protein and fat can also supply glucose in small amounts through a process called gluconeogenesis. It’s just a slower process. By limiting your carbohydrate intake to a low level (less than 50 grams per day), you can drastically change the way your body gets energy. Basically, without enough carbohydrates to get glucose quickly, the body has to rely on an alternative source: fat! On any diet, even a high carb diet, your body uses some fat for fuel – especially at rest and between meals. But this is usually a slow process and fat is not the main source of energy overall. Fatty acids are also not the desired energy source for the brain. So what happens when you restrict carbohydrates for a long time? Without enough carbohydrates for glucose, the liver produces ketones from fatty acids that the brain can use and can provide a faster and more stable flow of energy to the body. This is the process of ketogenesis, the result of a ketogenic or “keto” diet. And when ketogenesis takes over (officially switching from sugar to fatty acids as the primary energy source), you enter a metabolic state called ketosis. What is a ketone? Although ketosis is unique to the ketogenic diet, ketone bodies are not. Ketones are usually produced during periods of starvation, fasting or prolonged exercise. The keto diet is different because the production of ketones is prolonged and increased, becoming the main fuel source for the muscles and the brain, rather than anything else. For example, the ketone body supplies less than 6% of the body’s energy needs after an overnight fast (or a normal sleep pattern), but jumps to 30 to 40% of fuel after a 3-day fast, and this increases to more than 60% during ketosis (1). Your liver produces three types of ketones or ketone bodies: Acetoacetate Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) Acetone Acetoacetate is the main ketone produced by the liver during fatty acid metabolism or during restricted carbohydrate intake. It is then converted to BHB or acetone. Some acetoacetate is used for energy and the excess is excreted through the urine – these are the ketones that urine-based keto test strips look for! BHB is the main ketone used to fuel muscles and organs during ketosis, and is a ketone body that can supply the brain with energy in the absence of glucose.
