The program, administered by the Florida Housing Finance Corp., provides down payments and closing cost assistance to income-eligible first-time homebuyers in the community where they work.

Through Florida Housing, qualified borrowers can receive up to $7,500 in zero percent interest on a deferred second mortgage to be used to pay off conventional loans. (If you get an FHA, VA, or USDA loan, qualified borrowers can get up to $10,000.) Repayment is deferred until the home is sold or the borrower moves or refinances the mortgage.

This program offers qualified borrowers 3, 4 or 5 percent of the home purchase price to use for down payments and closing costs. This second mortgage is condoned after five years.

This program offers buyers up to $10,000 in second mortgage assistance at 3% interest. The mortgage must be paid off in 15 years unless you move, refinance, sell or transfer ownership of the property. In this case, the balance must be paid in full.

There are also several national programs to help first-time home buyers get into a home. These include FHA, USDA, and VA loans, as well as some special programs based on your mortgage lender or whether you plan to renovate your property. See the manual for more information.
